The Scorpion of Stock

The Scorpion of Stock will sting you when you don’t expect it!

Stock is much more harmful than you might expect and here’s why:

scorpion

Storage cost – space heat and light, racks, forklifts

Capital tied up in the stock itself

Obsolescence – becoming ‘last year’s model’, or there’s a change and suddenly nobody wants it

Recording / remembering where it is, needs people, time and systems, and still goes wrong every now and then!

Pilferage

Inspecting / Stock checks / counting

Obscures other inefficiencies, quality problems and lead times

Nibbled by mice and other deterioration of both product and packaging

onwards and upwards
