These are the ingredients of good planning:
Time – critical path, contingency, crashing if required
Objective and priorities, how will success be measured?
Resources – required vs available. Includes money, equipment, people etc
Team – involvement of the team wherever possible, who, skills required, mix of types
Obstacles and risk – plan for possible problems, bottlenecks, what is likely / serious, mitigation and remaining exposure after all actions have been taken
Inter-dependencies – other projects, overlaps or conflicts, resources (see the Resource Rissoles)
Stakeholders – power and attitude, RACI, what’s your comms plan for consult and inform?
Evaluate – improve the process for next time.
Onwards and upwards!
