I have a friend whose Dad worked in steel in Glasgow. Worked 16 to 65, died age 66. We probably all know examples of this.
I read that teachers who retire at 65 only live for another 18 months on average.
There was a famous study done by Boeing:

I don’t now how reliable the data from Boeing is – it looks as if it could be exaggerated – but the principle is probably true.
If anyone has more data on this I’d love to see it!
