One of my (many) pet hates is courses that pretend to teach Project Management when in fact they are teaching people skills.
Certainly project managers need people skills – and often lack them – in fact people problems might be the biggest cause of project failure. But don’t call it a Project Management course, call it a People Skills course.
I won’t name names, but here’s one I found today:
Not even a MENTION of Gantt charts, and in two whole days there is only one bit of real project management amongst all the waffle – “Effective and real estimating”.
I suspect that courses like this are written and presented by people who have been asked to do a Project Management course but don’t really know anything about it.
If it doesn’t have a Gantt chart it’s not a project,
and if it doesn’t cover Gantt chart it’s not a Project Management course.
There – I feel better now!
